Tutelares, Cultural monument in Pampa de Acha, Chile.
Tutelares is a monument in Pampa de Acha built from concrete and clay with a distinctive semi-spherical main structure. The composition includes an engraved spiral design and two vertical figures that anchor the overall form.
The artist Juan Diaz Fleming created the work with funding from the National Council of Culture and Arts in 1996. It was formally inaugurated in 1997 as a permanent memorial to the region's earliest inhabitants.
The site honors the first indigenous peoples who made their home in northern Chile. Visitors see abstract human shapes and geometric patterns that express a deep connection to ancestral roots.
The site sits about 27 kilometers south of Arica at the junction of Panamericana Norte and Route A-31. It is visible from the highway and easy to access by car or vehicle.
The work merges contemporary artistic methods with architectural elements inspired by traditional Andean building practices. This fusion of modern expression with regional influences creates an uncommon example of how past and present can exist together in one space.
