Playa Chinchorro, Sandy beach in Arica, Chile.
Playa Chinchorro is a long sandy beach on the Pacific coast north of downtown Arica, featuring gentle waves and warm water throughout the year. Hotels, restaurants, and recreational facilities line the beachfront, creating a developed stretch of coastline.
This beach was named after the Chinchorro people, ancient inhabitants who lived along this coast for thousands of years. In 1868, a major flood event brought a ship ashore, and remnants from this incident remain visible on the beach.
The beach is named after the Chinchorro people, ancient inhabitants of this coast who settled here for thousands of years. Their heritage remains visible through cultural displays and museums throughout Arica.
The beach is located just a couple of kilometers from downtown Arica and offers convenient parking areas throughout the length of the shoreline. Sports equipment and recreational facilities are available along the beach and can be used freely by visitors.
The water temperature remains pleasant year-round without seasonal changes, while the region receives almost no rainfall due to its desert location. These stable conditions make it one of the most reliable beaches in the region for spending time outdoors.
