House Yanulaque, Heritage house in central Arica, Chile.
The House Yanulaque is a double-story building at the intersection of 18 de Septiembre and General Lagos streets featuring traditional architectural elements from the 19th century. The structure displays period features such as window frames and ornamentation that characterize the historic center of Arica.
The property began as a warehouse called La Colmena before transforming into the building that stands today. It transferred to Peruvian state ownership through the 1929 Treaty of Lima, marking its role in territorial arrangements between Chile and Peru.
The building functions as a cultural venue with exhibition spaces and creative workshops that support local artistic expression today. The rooms host dance laboratories and regular events that shape the artistic life of the city.
The building is located at General Lagos 509 in the city center and can be easily reached on foot by following the main streets. It serves as the Peruvian consulate-general and maintains regular hours for diplomatic services.
Manuel Yanulaque Scorda, a Greek immigrant from the island of Paros, originally founded the property and shaped the commercial history of the neighborhood. The shift from a warehouse to a diplomatic center shows how urban functions evolved over decades.
