Alto de la Alianza

Alto de la Alianza is a memorial complex built on the Intiorko Hill plateau, featuring eight stainless steel sculptures arranged around a commemorative arch. Below ground lies a museum space housing objects and records that document the military events connected to this location.

The site marks where a major battle took place in 1880 between Peruvian and Bolivian forces against the Chilean army. This conflict was a turning point in the War of the Pacific, which reshaped territorial boundaries across the region.

The name reflects the allied Peruvian and Bolivian forces who stood together at this location. Visitors can see how the memorial design expresses this partnership and remains a symbol of shared historical memory between nations.

The hilltop location is reached by walking paths that lead to the main platform and offer views across the surroundings. The underground rooms require descending stairs, so visitors with mobility concerns should plan accordingly.

A cemetery nearby holds more than 700 crosses and a marble memorial for soldiers who died in the conflict. This burial ground, though less visited than the main sculptures above, touches many people more deeply through its personal remembrance.
