The park spans 100,230 hectares at elevations between 4,200 and 6,542 meters, featuring snow-capped mountains, thermal springs, and indigenous Queñoa forests.
The Bolivian government established Sajama as the country's first national park in 1939 to protect native Queñoa de Altura trees on the mountainsides.
Indigenous Aymara communities within the park maintain traditional practices of llama herding and textile production through generations.
The park offers multiple hiking trails connecting to thermal springs, geysers, ancient burial towers, and the base of Nevado Sajama mountain.
The ground contains tens of thousands of perfectly straight lines carved by ancient civilizations across the Altiplano plateau within the park boundaries.
