Huamanga Province

The province extends over 2,981 square kilometers across the northern part of Ayacucho Region at an elevation of 2,500 meters above sea level.

The province gained prominence during the Peruvian War of Independence, with the Battle of Ayacucho in 1824 marking the end of Spanish colonial rule.

The population maintains strong Quechua influences, with over half of the residents speaking Quechua as their first language according to census data.

The territory divides into fifteen administrative districts, including Ayacucho District, Acocro District, and Socos District, with Ayacucho city as the capital.

Yanapatira mountain rises within the province boundaries, reaching an altitude of 5,000 meters and dominating the regional landscape.
