National Historical Museum

The National Historical Museum is a large complex at Skanderbeg Square with several separate pavilions documenting different periods of Albanian history. The collection spans from the Late Paleolithic era to modern times, featuring significant objects and documents from medieval Albanian kingdoms.

The museum was established in 1981 to preserve collections spanning millennia of Albanian history. Its creation came during a period when documenting and safeguarding national heritage became increasingly important.

The entrance features a large mosaic depicting scenes from different periods of Albanian history, immediately welcoming visitors into the country's layered past. This artwork symbolizes how different eras interweave and leaves a strong first impression on all who enter.

The museum is best visited during quieter times to explore the exhibitions without crowds. Plan to spend several hours here, as the multiple pavilions contain substantial material to discover.
