National Museum of Medieval Art

The National Museum of Medieval Art in Korce displays a large collection of stone carvings, metalwork, wooden objects, and textiles spanning multiple centuries. These pieces show how craftspeople and artists developed their skills across the region over time.

The museum was founded in 1980 to preserve and display the artistic treasures of the region. A major renovation in 2016 improved how the collection is presented and cared for.

The museum honors masterworks that shaped how people visualized their faith across generations and regions. Walking through its halls, you see how artists communicated spiritual beliefs through painting, carving, and metalwork.

Visiting during the warmer months from April to September offers the longest opening hours and most comfortable conditions. During the colder months, it is worth checking adjusted hours before planning your trip.

One gallery features a towering gold screen stretching two stories high, filled with countless icons that dominate the space. Another section with dark walls and individual lighting for each piece creates a completely different way to experience the works.
