Stanislavski Russian Theatre of Yerevan, State theatre in Kentron district, Yerevan, Armenia
The Stanislavski Russian Theatre is a theatre venue in central Yerevan housed within a classical building on Abovyan Street. The theatre contains an auditorium with approximately 514 seats and stages regular productions throughout the theatrical season.
The theatre opened in 1937 and was named in 1938 in honor of the influential Russian theatre director Constantin Stanislavski. The building stands on the site of a former Russian church that previously occupied this location.
Performances here are presented in Russian language, featuring works from Russian literature alongside productions by Armenian classical playwrights. This programming reflects the historical connection between Russian and Armenian cultures within the city's arts scene.
The theatre stages special performances for children on weekends and maintains regular productions throughout the theatrical season. Visitors should plan ahead to check the programming schedule, as offerings vary depending on the time of year.
The theatre was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples, recognizing its cultural contributions to the Soviet arts landscape. This honour highlights the venue's significance as a major cultural institution beyond its immediate neighbourhood.
