Armavir, Ancient city ruins in Armavir Region, Armenia.

The archaeological site encompasses two citadels, royal palaces, temples, and production areas spread across a hilltop overlooking the surrounding plains.

King Argishti I established this settlement in 776 BC as Argishtikhinili, which later became an economic and cultural center of the Urartian Kingdom.

Archaeological findings include cuneiform inscriptions, clay tablets with Gilgamesh epic fragments, and Greek poetry from authors like Hesiod and Euripides.

The ruins of ancient Armavir stand at 870 meters elevation and can be accessed from the nearby village of Haykavan in western Armenia.

Seventeen cuneiform inscriptions from different Urartian kings detail the city's founding, defense systems, and religious ceremonies throughout its existence.
