Armavir

Armavir is an ancient city site on a hilltop in western Armenia featuring the remains of two fortified citadels, royal residence buildings, and temple structures. The ruins spread across different levels of the slope and show traces of residential quarters, storage facilities, and areas where craftspeople worked.

A ruler established this settlement in the 8th century BC as a major center for an ancient regional kingdom. The site remained significant for centuries, serving as a hub for administration and commerce before eventual abandonment left only ruins today.

The site reflects how an ancient civilization organized itself around royal power and spiritual life, visible in the layout of palace areas and sacred spaces. Walking through reveals how residents once occupied different zones for administration, worship, and daily work.
