Quba Mere Diwane, Yazidi temple in Aknalich, Armenia
Quba Mere Diwane is a Yazidi temple in Aknalich featuring a striking white stone structure with a central arched roof. The building rises to about 25 meters with eight domes, the central one forming the dominant architectural element of the complex.
The temple opened in September 2019, built to serve the Yazidi community that migrated to Armenia fleeing religious persecution under Ottoman rule. This opening marked an important moment for the Yazidi diaspora seeking a permanent place of worship in the region.
The central dome represents Melek Taus, the supreme being in Yazidi faith, while the seven surrounding domes embody angels in the architectural design. Visitors see this spiritual arrangement reflected throughout the building's layout and decoration.
The temple sits about 45 minutes by car from Yerevan and is accessible via a short walk from the main highway. A taxi from a nearby town offers a practical option if you prefer not to drive or want help finding the exact entrance.
The grounds include a seminary and museum dedicated to Yazidi culture with artifacts and stories for visitors to explore. A statue park honors important figures such as Nobel laureate Nadia Murad and Armenian military leader Andranik Ozanian.
