Khoranashat

The monastery complex stands on a forested slope 1 kilometer northeast from Chinari village, featuring remnants of stone churches and medieval structures.

Built between 1211 and 1251 under the guidance of Vardapet Vanakan, the monastery complex served as a center for manuscript creation and religious education.

The main church displays traditional Armenian architectural elements, including an octagonal drum, conical dome, and intricate stone carvings across its surfaces.

Located 200 kilometers from Yerevan and 500 meters from the Azerbaijan border, visitors need to coordinate access with local authorities due to security considerations.

The monastery walls contain preserved medieval frescoes with inscriptions in Georgian and Greek letters, indicating multicultural influences in its decoration.
