Quatro de Fevereiro Airport, International airport in Luanda, Angola
Quatro de Fevereiro Airport is the international airport serving Luanda in Angola. It operates with two asphalt runways, the main one extending 3,716 meters and the secondary one measuring 2,600 meters.
The facility opened in 1954 during Portuguese administration as Aeroporto Presidente Craveiro Lopes. After Angolan independence the airport received its current name.
The name Quatro de Fevereiro marks February 4, 1961, when Angolans rose against Portuguese colonial rule. This date became a symbol for the beginning of the long struggle for self-determination.
The airport sits about 5 kilometers from central Luanda and connects through main roads. Several international carriers including Air France and Emirates provide regular connections to destinations worldwide.
Starting in 2024 all operations will move to the new Dr. Antonio Agostinho Neto International Airport located outside the city. This marks the end of more than seven decades serving as the main gateway to Angola.
