Cine Atlântico, Entertainment center in central Luanda, Angola
Cine Atlântico is an entertainment center in downtown Luanda featuring a large outdoor auditorium supported by triangular columns beneath a cable-stayed roof. The two-level building contains bars and facilities on the ground floor, with ramps providing access to the seating areas above.
The complex opened in 1966 as a new addition to Luanda's entertainment landscape, designed by architect Eduardo Paulino. Its innovative roof design represented a significant engineering achievement of that era.
The venue serves as a gathering place for film screenings and live performances that draw audiences from across the city. People come here to experience music and cinema in a social setting that has long been part of Luanda's cultural life.
The venue is accessible via ramps connecting both levels, making it easy to move around the space. Ground floor facilities include bars and restrooms available for use during events.
The cable-stayed roof held a technical record for several years after its completion, showcasing innovative engineering. Engineers had to revise their calculations more than once to perfect the design.
