Sonangol is the headquarters of Angola's state-owned petroleum company located in central Luanda. The building was designed by Chinese architect Sung-ho Hang and houses thousands of workers within its modern structure.
The company was established in 1976 following Angola's independence through the takeover of colonial-era petroleum operations. Since then it has managed the country's oil and natural gas production.
The building represents Angola's economic transformation through oil production, housing professionals from geologists to environmental specialists.
The building is open on weekdays and visitor access requires prior arrangement and approval. Public visits are not typically permitted without advance notification to the facility.
The structure serves as the control center for operations producing 202,000 barrels of oil daily and managing international subsidiaries across continents.
