Museum of the Armed Forces, Military museum in Fortaleza de São Miguel, Luanda, Angola
The Museum of the Armed Forces displays military vehicles, aircraft, artillery pieces, and combat equipment from different periods of Angolan conflicts.
The museum opened in 1975 following Angola's independence and contains artifacts from the Independence War, South African Border War, and Civil War.
The museum grounds preserve colonial-era statues of historical figures, including Diogo Cão and Paulo Dias de Novais, formerly displayed in Luanda's streets.
The museum underwent restoration between 1997 and 2013, improving its outdoor exhibits and making the collections more accessible to visitors.
The collection includes wreckage of South African Air Force aircraft, Portuguese T-6G Texan trainers, and various military vehicles like BRDM-2 and Eland-90.
