Prédio do Baleizão, Historic building in central Luanda, Angola
The Prédio do Baleizão stands at Largo da Amizade Angola-Cuba square, featuring architectural elements that represent different periods of Angolan construction styles.
Built in the 17th century during early Portuguese colonization, the structure later housed Dom João II College and received cultural heritage status through decree 86.
The building contained the Baleizão café, which gained recognition among Luanda residents for producing exceptional ice cream during the 1960s.
In 2019, authorities closed the building due to structural issues, leading to the relocation of 24 families to new housing in Zango 4 district.
The structure remains at coordinates -8.81059 latitude and 13.224951 longitude, marking centuries of urban development at Largo da Amizade Angola-Cuba.
