Gaga'emauga, Administrative district in Savai'i, Samoa
The district of Gaga'emauga extends across the northeastern section of Savai'i island and includes two separate territories on Upolu island.
The volcanic eruption of Mount Matavanu in 1905 transformed the northern part of Gaga'emauga into extensive lava fields, causing residents to relocate.
Saleaula serves as the traditional center where district chiefs and orators gather at the Vaitu'utu'u malae for important ceremonial meetings.
The district maintains governmental services through its connection to Tuasivi in the neighboring Fa'asaleleaga district, which provides medical and legal facilities.
The name Gaga'emauga translates to 'near side of the mountain,' referring to its position on the eastern side of Savai'i's central mountain range.
