Mount ʻAlava, Mountain summit in National Park of American Samoa, US.
Mount 'Alava is a mountain summit in American Samoa National Park, rising 491 meters above sea level and surrounded by dense tropical rainforest. Multiple hiking paths lead through the forested landscape of the Eastern District.
The summit underwent major infrastructure work in 2015 to repair television and radio equipment serving the region. These repairs improved access and conditions at the mountaintop facilities.
The mountain trails show traditional Samoan building styles, especially the fale structure at the summit that serves as a gathering place and shelter.
Two different trails reach the peak: a gentler path from Fagasa Pass and a steeper route from Vatia. Prepare for tropical weather and wet conditions before visiting.
The summit holds remnants of an abandoned cableway system beside a wooden platform that rises above the surrounding forest canopy. These old structures offer a glimpse into earlier ways people reached the mountain.
