Magallanes Province

Magallanes Province encompasses 36,400 square kilometers of territory along the Strait of Magellan, containing four municipalities including its capital Punta Arenas.

The province emerged as a strategic territory for controlling maritime passages between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans before the Panama Canal construction in 1914.

The provincial population includes descendants of European settlers, particularly Croatian and British immigrants who arrived during the 19th-century economic expansion.

The Carlos Ibáñez Del Campo International Airport serves as the main entry point for visitors, with additional access available through road connections from Argentina.

The province contains Port Famine, multiple penguin colonies, and Chile's first marine park, while maintaining a population density of only 3.3 inhabitants per square kilometer.
