Cabrero

Cabrero is a commune in Bío Bío Province in southern Chile, situated across flat terrain dotted with agricultural land. The settlement has the character of a small town with modest buildings, wide streets, and direct access to surrounding farming areas.

The settlement began as a railway station serving the transport of goods between rural properties across the region. During the 20th century, immigrants from the Middle East and Italy arrived and established themselves, reshaping the community's growth.

The community's identity is rooted in agricultural work, where families tend fields and raise livestock as part of their daily lives. Local celebrations and gatherings reflect this connection to farming and rural traditions.

The commune lies about 60 kilometers south of Concepción and is easily reached by main highways. The local terrain is mostly flat, making exploration on foot or by bicycle straightforward.

The area was a focal point of an agrarian reform movement in the 1970s that dramatically reshaped landownership patterns. This episode left a lasting imprint on how locals view their identity as a farming community.
