General Cruz, Rural village in Pemuco, Chile
General Cruz is a small village in the Ñuble Region situated near the Itata River along Route 5 South. The settlement consists of roughly a hundred houses scattered along this main road, forming the backbone of the rural community.
The village was named after General José María de la Cruz Prieto, who owned the original estate in this location during the 19th century. It later developed as an agricultural settlement along the main transportation route.
The G-382 Basic School serves 90 students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, maintaining educational standards in this rural community.
The village is easily reached via Route 5 South, which connects it directly to larger towns in the region. The main access road to Pemuco is paved, making it straightforward to visit from nearby areas.
A former railway station named Itata stands as a reminder of the village's industrial past. The private railway line was built by local farmer Zenón Méndez Urrejola to transport goods through the region.
