Casa Hodgkinson, Historical monument in Graneros, Chile

Casa Hodgkinson is a two-story brick building in central Graneros featuring high ceilings and Oregon pine roofing throughout its structure. A continuous balcony runs along its facade facing Avenida Compania, defining the appearance of that street.

Built in 1899 by Gilberto Hodgkinson, the property housed a metallurgical foundry where Chile's first automobile was manufactured in 1902. Later it transitioned to serve as a cultural institution for the town's public use.

The building served the community as a public library and exhibition space, making it a gathering place for local culture and learning. Visitors could view collections that reflected the area's heritage and artistic interests.

The site sits at the intersection of Avenida La Compania and Avenida O'Higgins in the city center, making it easy to find and accessible on foot. Note that mainly the first floor is visible for viewing from outside.

The building once served as offices for the Braden Copper Company, connecting it to the evolution of Chilean copper mining. This detail reveals how the location was tied to one of the nation's most significant industries.
