Monumento a la Familia Minera, Mining family monument in Machali, Chile
The monument features a miner wearing a helmet and lamp, accompanied by his wife and child, measuring 10 meters high and 25 meters wide.
Created by Chilean artist German Ruz Baeza in 2000, the monument stands at kilometer 10 of Carretera del Cobre in the Tierras Blancas sector of Machali.
The sculpture represents the fundamental role of mining families in the development of the O'Higgins Region, serving as a gathering point for community events.
Located along Carretera del Cobre at coordinates 34°11′41″S 70°38′23″W, the monument weighs 7 tons and was sculpted in El Teniente Division workshops.
In 2016, local residents organized protests and collected signatures to prevent the demolition of the monument, which was built on private land without municipal permission.
