The resort was established in 1983 when Luis Alberto Parra Massarutti acquired the land following a decree that permitted state land donations for tourism purposes. This founding was part of a broader push to develop mountain sports in the region.
The name comes from Quechua language and refers to a pure water spring located on the grounds at 3,880 meters elevation. Visitors can directly experience this cultural connection to the region's indigenous heritage while they are there.
The location accepts only cash payments at the ticket window and opens from 10 AM during winter season. Visitors can rent equipment on site, though arriving early helps ensure better options for gear selection.
