Southern Astrophysical Research Telescope

The Southern Astrophysical Research Telescope features a 4.1-meter mirror and stands at an elevation of 2,738 meters on Cerro Pachón mountain.

The telescope construction began in 1997 with the acquisition of glass ceramics for mirrors and reached completion in January 2004.

The telescope represents a partnership between institutions from Brazil, the United States, including North Carolina University and Michigan State University.

Located 10 kilometers southeast of Cerro Tololo Observatory, the facility restricts access to scientific purposes and scheduled educational group visits.

The telescope incorporates nine different instruments simultaneously, enabling researchers to conduct multiple types of astronomical observations in a single session.
