Parque Coll, Recreation park in La Serena, Chile.
Parque Coll is a recreation park in La Serena located between Colina del Pino and Avenida 18 de Septiembre, containing walking paths, green areas, and natural streams across its grounds. The space includes sports fields, children's playgrounds, barbecue areas, and numerous trails suitable for walking or cycling.
The park was founded in 1950 when siblings Coll Julia donated 50 hectares from the Santa Isabel estate to honor their father Gabriel Coll Dalmau. This gift formed the foundation for developing the space into a major green area for the city.
The park was designed by landscape architect Oscar Prager and features a mix of native and imported trees such as plane trees, carob trees, and Canary Island pines. This variety of trees shapes how the space looks and creates different zones with their own character.
The park is best explored on foot or by bicycle, as the many paths provide plenty of options for visiting different areas. The barbecue areas and playgrounds are easily accessible for families, and the space is most pleasant to visit during daylight hours.
The park serves as habitat for local birds and wildlife that have adapted to live alongside visitors and can often be spotted during a visit. These animals add a natural dimension to the experience of spending time in the space.
