Casa Chadwick, Neoclassical house in La Serena, Chile.
Casa Chadwick is a neoclassical residence in La Serena's historic center with a symmetrical two-story facade. The front features wooden trim on the ground level and forged iron balconies above, while the interior is organized around two aligned courtyards with hexagonal pillars and marble floors.
The building was constructed between 1865 and 1870 by Bartolo Varela during La Serena's expansion from silver mining development in the region. It gained its current name when Roberto Chadwick purchased it in 1892 and made it a notable residence in the city.
The building represents the architectural evolution of La Serena following the 1825 discovery of silver mines in Arqueros.
The house sits at Los Carreras 281 in La Serena's historic center within walking distance of other period buildings and plazas. Visitors can view the exterior facade and may see portions of the courtyards depending on current access and the building's active use.
The interior preserves two aligned courtyards with hexagonal pillars, marble flooring, and a triangular pediment facing the entrance.
