Carabaya Province

Carabaya is a province in the Andes with high-altitude terrain and mountains reaching over 4,000 meters. The territory includes ten districts spread across the region, with Macusani as its capital.

This area was settled long before the Inca period, as shown by archaeological finds in Macusani. Settlement evidence spans from ancient times through the Spanish colonial era.

The people here speak Quechua as their main language, keeping their highland traditions alive in daily life.

The area is accessible by bus from the provincial capital to the various districts. The high elevation requires good physical fitness when traveling through this region.

The region contains several major mountain ranges including Willkanuta and Kallawaya. These ranges shape the landscape and hold cultural meaning for local communities.
