Club de la Union, Private social club in Plaza Mayor, Peru
Club de la Union is a private social club in central Lima, located at the intersection of Jiron de la Union and Jiron Huallaga streets. The organization operates a second location with a beach facility and sports complex in Santa Rosa District, expanding beyond the historic center.
The club was founded in 1868 and counted admiral Miguel Grau and colonel Francisco Bolognesi among its founders before they served in the War of the Pacific. The current building was inaugurated in 1942 and later received recognition as a national heritage monument.
The building forms part of an architectural group surrounding Plaza Mayor, positioned alongside the Government Palace, Cathedral, and Municipal Palace of Lima. This arrangement shapes the identity of the historic center and reflects the importance of this location for the city.
The main building in central Lima is located in an easily accessible area near Plaza Mayor. The beach location in Santa Rosa requires separate travel and offers different activities than the main downtown facility.
The club draws attention for its connection to two important figures in Peruvian history, whose names remain alive in national memory today. This past gives the place a historical depth that extends beyond its architectural presence.
