Casa de la Literatura Peruana, Cultural center in Lima District, Peru

Casa de la Literatura Peruana is a cultural center housed in a three-story building with a symmetrical facade and classical pilasters, containing multiple exhibition rooms. The space includes an extensive library and research facilities dedicated entirely to Peruvian literature.

The Desamparados station building dates from 1912, when it served the railway line into the central Andes. The Casa de la Literatura Peruana was created by Supreme Decree No. 007-2008-ED and opened on 20 October 2009, with its original museum design entrusted to architect Juan Carlos Burga. On 25 September 2015 the permanent exhibition Intensidad y altura de la literatura peruana replaced that first proposal, and it was updated on 22 February 2018.

The center showcases Peruvian literature and its authors, showing how their works have shaped the nation's identity across different periods. Visitors can trace which literary movements defined various eras and understand the ways local writers influenced society.

The center occupies the former Desamparados station in the Lima District, and entry and all services are free as it belongs to the Ministry of Education. The permanent exhibition Intensidad y altura de la literatura peruana, updated in 2018, is the main route through the rooms. Temporary shows change periodically, so check what is on before a visit.

The building is the former Estación de Desamparados, the 1912 railway station that served as the departure point for trains into the central Andes. The Casa de la Literatura Peruana opened there on 20 October 2009, created by Decreto Supremo N° 007-2008-ED, and admission and services are free as it belongs to the Ministry of Education.
