Olmos District

Olmos District is an administrative area in Lambayeque Province in northern Peru. The territory covers a large expanse and comprises roughly half of the entire provincial area.

A Spanish viceroy officially recognized the Indigenous Community of Olmos in 1544 when the area was ruled by the Copiz Kingdom. This formal acknowledgment marked the beginning of European administrative structures in the region.

The district's name comes from Spanish colonists who saw the local algarrobo trees and thought of the elm trees from their homeland. This naming shows how outsiders understood and described the landscape they encountered.

The region has a warm tropical-like climate with hot summers and mild winters, so plan your clothing accordingly. Many small settlements are spread throughout the area, so it helps to plan your route in advance.

The area is crossed by several rivers, including the Olmos and San Cristóbal, which shape the landscape. These waterways play an important role in irrigation and daily life for local residents.
