San Ignacio Province

San Ignacio Province spans 4,990 square kilometers across varied terrain, from mountain ranges to valleys, bordering Ecuador in northern Peru.

The province gained its official status through Law No. 15560 on May 12, 1965, during President Fernando Belaunde's administration after negotiations started in 1926.

Local communities throughout the seven districts maintain agricultural traditions centered on coffee cultivation, which forms the foundation of regional identity.

The province maintains governmental offices in San Ignacio de la Frontera, where residents can access administrative services and obtain official documentation.

The territory encompasses multiple ecological zones at 1,324 meters elevation, supporting coffee plantations and forest systems along the Ecuador border.
