Fort San Serapio Mártir del Azul, Military fort in Azul, Argentina.

Fort San Serapio Martir del Azul is a military fortress in Azul built with adobe walls and four cannons positioned at the corners in a square layout. The structure was surrounded by a protective moat and located on the right bank of Arroyo Azul, where the Municipal Palace was later constructed in 1886.

The fortification was founded in 1832 under Governor Juan Manuel de Rosas and served as a defensive position against indigenous groups in the frontier region. Originally named Federacion, it was designed by surveyor Francisco Mesura and marked an important military presence in the expanding territory.

The settlement attracted soldiers, families, a priest, and a doctor who together laid the groundwork for the city's later development. This group shaped the first social structure and established institutions needed to support the growing community.

The site is easy to reach and located in the central zone of Azul, where public buildings and plazas are now present. Visitors should come during daytime when the area is brightest and the surrounding city feels most active.

The fort was originally called Federacion before receiving its current name, and the city that developed around it eventually adopted this same name as well. This renaming shows how the fortification and the community intertwined their identities.
