Museum of Contemporary Latin American Art of La Plata, Art museum in La Plata, Argentina.
The Museum of Contemporary Latin American Art occupies five exhibition rooms on the ground floor of Pasaje Dardo Rocha in central La Plata. The collection contains over five hundred artworks representing different artistic approaches and media from the contemporary Latin American art scene.
The museum was founded in September 1999 as a result of discussions among Latin American art critics and artists that had begun in 1978. Those early conversations led to recognition of the need for a dedicated exhibition space for Latin American artworks.
The collection features works by Latin American artists who lived in exile in Europe and donated their pieces to the institution. Visitors encounter artworks that reflect the artists' perspectives on their homelands and their experiences abroad.
The museum is located between 6th and 7th streets and is easily accessible on foot from the city center. Visitors should note that weekday hours differ from weekend hours, so checking current opening times before visiting is advisable.
The building uses mobile iron structures to transport and position artworks, allowing for flexible exhibition layouts. An automatic temperature control system ensures that delicate pieces remain optimally preserved.
