The San Ponciano Basilica features a Neo-Gothic architectural design with a prominent bell tower, detailed stained glass windows, and Spanish altarpieces throughout the structure.
The church's foundation stone was laid on June 12, 1883, by La Plata founder Dardo Rocha, and it served as the city's first cathedral from 1897 to 1902.
The basilica houses the largest pipe organ in southern Argentina and contains stained glass windows crafted by German artisans from Koblenz depicting biblical scenes.
Religious services are held multiple times daily, with the parish office operating Tuesday through Friday from 9 AM to 1 PM and 3 PM to 7 PM.
The basilica received its pontifical title from Pope John Paul II in 1997 and contains a historic shrine of Our Lady of Luján brought by Archbishop Juan Terrero.
