Berisso is an administrative center in Buenos Aires Province, situated roughly 53 kilometers south of the capital. The city covers an area of about 135 square kilometers and sits at an elevation of 17 meters above sea level.
The city was founded by Albanian immigrant Juan Berisso, whose original family name Berisha became the basis for the city's current name. It later grew as a settlement hub for many other immigrant groups arriving from Europe.
The September Immigrant Festival honors the presence of Albanian, Ukrainian, Polish, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and Italian communities who have maintained their traditions here for generations.
