Reserva provincial Telteca, Protected natural park in Mendoza, Argentina.
Telteca Provincial Reserve is a park covering extensive desert terrain with sand dunes and scattered woodland in northeastern Mendoza. The landscape displays typical Monte plains features, with open ground and trees adapted to arid conditions.
The reserve received official protection status in 1985 through Provincial Law 5061, establishing a conservation area within the Monte ecoregion. This designation became a turning point for safeguarding this arid landscape.
The name comes from Huarpe indigenous words meaning mature fruit, referencing the carob trees that grow throughout the landscape. Locals connect this heritage to the plants that have shaped the land for generations.
The park has marked trails for wildlife watching, with hot summers and mild winters receiving little rain. Visitors should prepare for dry conditions and bring plenty of water.
The area is home to the crowned eagle, a striking raptor found in South America, making it a refuge for this rare bird. Alongside grey foxes, maras, and many songbird species, this eagle represents an important part of the region's wildlife.
