Carlos Paz, Tourist municipality in Punilla Valley, Argentina
Carlos Paz is a municipality in the Punilla Valley in Córdoba Province, located along the southern shore of San Roque Reservoir at an elevation of 661 meters. The San Antonio River and Los Chorrillos Stream cross through the town, providing green areas and walking paths along their banks.
Carlos Nicandro Paz founded the settlement in 1913 on land from a former ranch. The administration declared it an official municipality in 1924, and it has since developed into a holiday destination for families from Córdoba and Buenos Aires.
The town uses its theaters and open-air venues for summer festivals and performances that draw visitors from across the country. Local restaurants serve traditional dishes from Córdoba, including empanadas and grilled specialties, which are offered in inns around the center.
Visitors reach the town via Ruta Nacional 20, which runs about 30 kilometers northwest of Córdoba. Regular bus lines connect the town terminal with the provincial capital and other locations in the valley.
The town streets were used for special stages of the Dakar Rally in 2015 and 2016. The area also serves as a base for Rally Argentina teams, which drive through the region each year.
