Reserva natural Quebracho de la Legua, Nature reserve in San Luis Province, Argentina.
Reserva natural Quebracho de la Legua is a protected area in northwestern San Luis Province with flat to gently rolling terrain and arid soil conditions. The landscape is characterized by white quebracho and black carob trees mixed with thorny shrubs and scattered vegetation adapted to dry conditions.
The province established this protected area in 1979 to conserve a section of the dry Chaco ecoregion. The reserve was created to safeguard the vegetation and wildlife of this arid landscape for future generations.
The reserve maintains populations of pumas, grey foxes, mountain cats, and numerous bird species including the crowned eagle in their natural environment.
The reserve is located roughly 20 kilometers from the Sierra de las Quijadas National Park entrance and can be reached via National Route 20 and several provincial roads. Visiting during cooler months makes outdoor exploration more comfortable.
The white quebracho, which gives the reserve its name, is a hardwood prized for its durability and has been valued in the region for generations. This tree thrives under the harshest Chaco conditions and forms a distinctive forest pattern with other drought-adapted species.
