Mirador del Potrero, Scenic viewpoint in San Luis, Argentina
Mirador del Potrero is a scenic viewpoint in San Luis situated at roughly 1,270 meters elevation, overlooking Potrero de los Funes village and its adjacent lake. Access is via Provincial Route 3, located about 20 kilometers north of San Luis city, reachable through an ascending path of approximately 4.8 kilometers.
Indigenous communities inhabited the region surrounding this viewpoint long before modern settlements took root in San Luis province. These early peoples lived across the landscape for generations before European colonization changed the territory.
The viewpoint serves as the finish line for the Tour de San Luis cycling competition, drawing international athletes to tackle this steep mountain section.
The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon for optimal light and visibility across the landscape. The path is steep, so sturdy footwear and reasonable fitness are recommended for the climb.
In 2013, a special uphill motorsport event took place where drivers raced to the viewpoint following the main competition at the circuit below. This race merged two different motorsport categories into a single day of competition.
