Pozo Hondo

Pozo Hondo is a waterfall in Tacuarembo Department that drops around 15 meters into a deep pool fed by natural springs and rainfall. The site sits in a remote natural area positioned between two small communities in this rural region.

The area remained relatively undeveloped throughout Uruguay's growth and kept its natural features intact. Local communities primarily used the location as a water source and refuge.

Local residents share stories about the water source, which represents a central element in the recreational activities of Tacuarembo communities.

You will need a car to reach this remote location, as public transportation is sparse in this part of Tacuarembo. Bring sturdy hiking shoes and warm layers, especially when paths are wet or slippery.

The location sits within a network of pathways connecting two small villages, making it rarely visited by tourists. This isolation has allowed the surroundings to maintain their wild character and untamed landscape.
