Monumento ao Expedicionário stands in Farroupilha Park and features a double arch structure made of granite decorated with relief sculptures depicting soldiers from different military branches. The monument was inaugurated in 1957 and honors Brazilian soldiers who fought in World War II as part of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force. It was erected after the conflict to preserve the memory of those who gave their lives in Europe.
The bronze statue depicts a female figure inspired by Athena, armed with a shield and spear standing over a serpent. This representation embodies the protection and strength that Brazilians showed in this armed conflict.
The monument sits directly in front of the Military College and is easily accessible on foot from the park entrance. The site is used for civic ceremonies and weekend artistic performances, making the area busier at certain times.
Bronze plaques at the base list seventeen fallen soldiers from Rio Grande do Sul who died in the war. These names give the memorial a personal meaning and make the historical losses tangible for visitors.
