Igreja do Santíssimo Sacramento e de Santa Teresinha de Lisieux, Catholic church in Bom Fim district, Porto Alegre, Brazil
Igreja do Santíssimo Sacramento e de Santa Teresinha de Lisieux is a Catholic church in the Bom Fim district featuring neo-Gothic architecture with an octagonal tower crowned by a statue of Saint Therese. The tower sculpture was created by artist Alfred Adloff and serves as a distinctive landmark.
Construction began in 1924 under the design of Spanish Carmelite Friar Cyríaco de São José and the building was completed in September 1931. The extended construction period reflects the scale and complexity of the project at that time.
The interior marble carvings depict scenes from Saint Therese's life and show saints of the Carmelite Order. These works shape how the space looks and communicates its spiritual purpose to visitors today.
The building is located near Redemption Park and the Military College, making it easy to reach. The surrounding area has local markets and street vendors, so visitors can combine a visit with time to explore the neighborhood.
The stained glass windows come from two different sources: most were made by Porto Alegre's Casa Genta, while a large piece on the facade was created by Madrid's Sociedad Maumejean Hermanos. This combination shows how local and international craftsmanship shaped the building.
