Confeitaria Rocco

Confeitaria Rocco is a four-story structure at the corner of Riachuelo and Dr. Flores streets, featuring decorative Atlas sculptures and iron beams throughout its construction. The building uses brick masonry combined with wrought iron supports that give it structural distinction.

An Italian confectioner named Nicolau Rocco commissioned architect Salvador Lambertini to build this structure starting in 1910. The building opened on September 20, 1912 and quickly became a significant venue in the city.

For many decades, this was a favored place where Porto Alegre's residents gathered for celebrations and social events that shaped the city's cultural life. The space served as a venue where different social circles could meet and share moments together.

This location is situated at a central intersection in Porto Alegre's downtown area and is easy to reach. The original layout featured a candy factory in the basement level and a public confectionery shop on the ground floor, showing how production and sales were organized.

The facade displays four Atlas statues representing different concepts, along with a central female figure framed within a lyre. These sculptural elements tell a symbolic story about prosperity and culture.
