Viaduto Otávio Rocha, Cultural heritage viaduct in central Porto Alegre, Brazil.
Viaduto Otávio Rocha is a reinforced concrete bridge in central Porto Alegre spanning Duque de Caxias Street to Borges de Medeiros Avenue with three main sections. Small shops operate beneath it, while four thematic stairways lead upward to the walkway known as Passeio das Quatro Estações.
Construction started in 1927 under architects Manoel Barbosa Assumpção Itaqui and Duilio Bernardi and finished in 1932. Its completion marked a period of significant growth and infrastructure development in Porto Alegre.
The sculptural groups beneath the transverse porticos are works by artist Alfred Adloff and define the structure's appearance. Cement mosaics decorating the walkways create visual interest that visitors notice while passing through.
The structure is easy to walk across and provides multiple access points to the upper levels via the different stairways. The lower commercial area beneath is ground level and readily accessible to visitors.
The bridge surfaces feature a granite powder plaster finish that mimics the look of traditional stonework throughout. This technique gives the modern concrete structure a classic stone appearance.
