The Metropolitan Curia building features a classical triangular pediment above smooth columns and rectangular windows with a balustrade terrace in the central block.
French architect Jules Villain designed the building in 1865, and after his death, German architect Johann Grünewald completed it with neo-Gothic elements in 1888.
The Curia archives maintain historical documents, including baptism, marriage, and death records from 1747 to the present day in Porto Alegre.
The Metropolitan Curia operates from Monday to Friday, providing religious certificates and services, with 420 monthly requests for marriage certificates.
The building stands on the former site of a cemetery and currently undergoes restoration while maintaining its administrative and social assistance functions.
