Juquery State Park

Juquery State Park is a protected nature reserve in São Paulo containing cerrado grasslands and Atlantic Forest sections spread across thousands of hectares. The park features multiple trails winding through these different ecosystems and natural habitats.

The land was purchased by São Paulo state in 1895 and first served as the location for a psychiatric hospital and agricultural colony. These early institutions shaped the site's development for many decades.

The name comes from yu-kery, a riverside plant that indigenous peoples once used to obtain salt for cooking. You can still find similar vegetation growing along the water today.

The park is open Tuesday through Sunday during daylight hours with no entrance fee required. Bring comfortable walking shoes and plenty of water if you plan to explore the trails.

Ovo da Pata is the park's highest point and a striking landscape feature that draws hikers seeking elevated views. The rocky summit offers a vantage point over the surrounding terrain.
