Torre do Castelo, Water tower observation deck in Jardim Chapadão, Campinas, Brazil
Torre do Castelo is a water supply tower in Campinas standing 27 meters tall with a capacity to hold 250,000 liters for the city's needs. The upper section functions as an observation platform where visitors can view the surroundings.
The tower was built in 1940 as part of engineer Prestes Maia's urban development plan and initially supplied water to expanding northern neighborhoods. A circular observation room was added later to give the structure additional purpose beyond water storage.
The circular observation room has windows with labeled panels showing which neighborhoods are visible from each viewpoint. Visitors can identify different parts of the city and understand how the neighborhoods relate to each other from this vantage point.
The platform is located within a public park and is easily reached on foot, though seating inside is limited. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since stairs lead up to the observation area.
The structure sits at 735 meters elevation and offers views on clear days extending to the Serra do Japi mountain range. This distant ridge lies about 40 kilometers away and appears as a natural boundary on the horizon.
