Núcleo Picinguaba, Conservation area in Ubatuba, Brazil
Núcleo Picinguaba is a protected conservation area on the coast of Ubatuba that encompasses five beaches, mangrove wetlands, and sections of Atlantic Forest. The site combines these distinct ecosystems within a single managed reserve that extends across a substantial territory.
Established in 1979, the protected area became an integral part of Serra do Mar State Park. This designation helped preserve substantial portions of the natural landscape within the municipality.
The villages of Picinguaba and Cambury are home to Caiçara and Quilombola communities who continue their traditional fishing and farming practices. Daily life here reflects these inherited customs that have shaped the area for generations.
Visitors can explore the information center located at Fazenda Beach to learn more about the site. The area offers parking and restroom facilities for a comfortable visit.
At the Casa da Farinha, local residents prepare traditional manioc flour using ancestral methods passed down through generations. This workshop demonstrates how traditional craft techniques continue in daily community life.
